    Sunday’s Ride in Coldsprings. . .

    By CJR | February 2, 2009

Guys I can’t say enough about a good fit!  This “FIT” thing is an elusive creature. . .  I am convinced there is no perfect fit on a bike - BUT I am also now convinced that talking to the right person can get you very close!  In some cases ALOT closer than where you were originally.  My fit w/Cobb really paid dividends this weekend at Coldsprings.  I rode with Carlos on Sunday (approx 8:00 AM).  The weather held out very nicely I might add.  We put in approx 2.5 hours w/ Carlos doing 2 loops around the race course (hard pace) and I did 1.5 loops at 85-90%.  (I did not want to over do it with the new position)  I felt great, knees felt great, and no bonking.  I felt strong thru the entire ride and def. felt alot more motor recruitment with the new fit.  I was basically using more muscle, more efficiently - and it was very apparent! (esp. when climbing)   I’m much much lower in the front end and had absolutely NO pain or even tightness in my back!  I’m not trying to marry this guy or anything (Cobb), I’m just really impressed with his ideas / knowledge.  I did have some very tight / sore hamstrings, which I will be working on over the next few weeks!  So enough about Cobb, lets get back to the ride . . .

Carlos and I spoke a little about getting a team camp together a couple of times a year at Coldsprings. . .  I think this is very doable for all of us!  We really need to get together more often and this would be some great riding (MTB / Road).

Lets stop procrastinating and make this happen.  It can happen over a weekend, we can all camp at the park (great ammenities) and get some mileage in.

RACERS. . . .  Rudy “The Rude Dog” Reyes raced this weekend and really had to grind out thru alot of adversity to a good finish in Cat 5 mens New B.  RACE.  I am going to make a commitment to get out and suffer with him (though I am really not ready) - Lets get some more people out to the races!!!

LOS - player good ride!  and remember power (power tap elite) is good . . . .

Sorry I did not make it up. I have not been so successful with my fit. I like the position but the effect on my muscles and knees has been pretty uncomfortable. I think I was just no ready for the new position and need to give it some time which is cutting way into my training. I have had to take some time off due to over doing it a bit. Trying to get the fit tweaked.

THe fit takes time, for me I still have a little tightness in my hamstrings, and I still feel my hips working. I feel stronger, but it takes consisten riding. If you have any issues that you think need attention he’s pretty good at responding to emails. I wouldn’t hesitate.

On a separate note I’ll be starting my season this weekend at Castorville. THis’ll be my first road race in almost two years, and its a stage race. I’m pretty nervous. I’ll give yall a race report on how it went.

wife is sick and I am spending time with her. Significant stuff but personal to her so I cannot go into it in any detail. Off the bike at least a week.

No worries Ed I know what it’s like when you’ve got family sick. Hope she gets well soon.

Put together an itinerary for a day camp and a wish list and email it to me and perhaps we can put something together.
